Pet Memorial

What to do with cremated pet ashes

__

Relationships are an essential part of living. After all, we have all heard of the saying, “No man is an island,” by the English poet John Donne. We cannot live on our own. However, this does not mean that human relationships are the only ones that should be valued. Relationships with pets are just as important.
Pets are a huge part of people’s lives. Some even consider them as family members. Pastimes with our furry friends can include playing Frisbee or curling up on a sofa while they are playing with yarn on our feet. There are times when we feel sad and our pets are the only ones who seem to understand us. They don’t even have to speak; their mere presence can comfort us.

Anatole France, a French poet and novelist, declared that “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” This statement is something that pet owners will certainly agree with. Studies also show that pets can bring health benefits to humans. One good example is that children who struggle with reading exhibit fewer anxiety symptoms when they have to read aloud to dogs. This practice can also lower children’s blood pressure and encourage confidence and relaxation in reading. This is just one of the many positive effects that pets can bring us. Unfortunately, most people often underestimate the grief pet owners experience when a beloved pet passes away. They fail to realize that some pet owners even consider their pets as their best friends.

How is pet memorial done?

__

When a cherished pet dies, owners can choose whether they want to bury or cremate their pet. Even though burial is the more common method of disposing animal remains, memorial is steadily rising in popularity.

Pet memorial can be done either in a standard crematory or a special pet crematory. The pet’s body is placed inside a memorial chamber with a temperature of 1,400 to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. Cremating smaller animals such as birds, hamsters, rabbits, and rodents take only about 30 minutes to 45 minutes while cremating larger animals like horses may take hours. Additional expenses may also be incurred with longer memorial hours. However, a rough estimate time for cremating animals is 45 minutes to 2 hours. Other metal objects are removed once the body has transformed to ashes. The pet remains are then ground into fine powder (often pale white in colour, but may also depend on the animal’s health condition) and placed in a plastic bag, box, or any other suitable container and sent back to the owner.

PRIVATE VS COMMUNAL MEMORIAL

__

Pet owners also have the option of having a private or communal memorial for their pets. In a private memorial (also known as individual memorial), the pet’s body is cremated solely inside the memorial chamber. This practice is a more expensive alternative. If the pet owner has decided on a communal memorial, the pet’s body will be cremated along with other animal bodies as well. They can also choose a communal but partitioned memorial, wherein the pet’s body is separated from the bodies of other dead animals through bricks or any other physical barrier. When the pet memorial process is finished, the cremating facility will have the ashes sent back to the pet owner. A certificate of memorial indicating the pet’s name, the owner/s name, the name and address of the crematory, the date of memorial, the type of memorial (private or communal memorial), and the memorial ID number will also be submitted to the pet owner.

WHAT TO DO WITH CREMATED PET ASHES?

__

There are diverse options that pet owners can choose from when deciding what to do with their cremated pet ashes. The most common choice would be having the cremated pet ashes buried in the owner’s backyard or garden. Others would prefer to have the pet ashes placed inside a memorial urn and kept inside the house or in a columbarium. Some pet owners resort to scattering the ashes of their beloved pet. They usually choose locations that have a special meaning to both the pet owner and the deceased pet. The place can be the pet’s home, a garden, a pond, or any other symbolic spot.

A more creative alternative would be using pet ashes to make a painting. The pet owner can choose what picture will be painted (most likely an image of the deceased pet), and the ashes will be mixed with the colouring materials used to make the painting. Nature-loving pet owners can also have their pet ashes transformed into a “living tree”. They can choose what type of tree they would like to have (e.g. oak, pine, maple, etc.) while the pet ashes will be placed in a special urn and used to nourish the tree. The process chosen largely depends upon the pet owner’s personal taste.

These pet ashes can also be placed inside gemstones and serve as keepsakes. However, another unique idea would be turning pet ashes to diamonds. These are called memorial diamonds or memorial diamonds. Making these diamonds from ashes is a special way of celebrating the wonderful memories we had with our lovable pets. Deciding which option to take is understandably difficult, but all pet owners can agree that it must be something which will mean so much and will make them remember the friendship they built with their pets.

TRANSFORMING PET ASHES INTO DIAMONDS

__

EverDear uses a sophisticated technique in making diamonds from ashes. The first step is called carbon refinement and is done by subjecting the pet ashes to heat in a vacuum environment. Changing pet ashes to diamonds also goes through another purification process, which is done by hand. The second step to turn pet ashes into diamonds is by placing a diamond seed in the inner core cube of the press and exposing the pet ashes into a high pressure, high temperature (HPHT) environment. This imitates the process of creating natural diamonds from the Earth’s mantle. The temperature can reach 2,000 degrees Celsius or more and will result to the dissolving of the catalyst metal. This molten catalyst metal will melt the carbon source and is transferred to the small diamond seed. This will be followed by the crystallization process, and will then produce a raw, memorial diamond.

These memorial diamonds will undergo the last step, known as the cutting and polishing stage. When these memorial diamonds are removed from the press, EverDear’s experts will design the crosswork, which is also known as the placing of the main facets on memorial diamonds. This process can help ensure that memorial diamonds possess high clarity, maximum weight, and the best angles, depending on the diamond’s shape. We use the round cut to bring out the brilliant facets of our diamonds. After the initial crosswork is finished, smoothing the facets of the memorial diamond will be done. Then, the final facets are also polished into the diamond. These facets are called the stars, top, and bottom halves. Our artisans use the latest tools and innovative technique when transforming pet ashes into diamonds.

You may wonder why EverDear & Co.’s memorial diamonds cost are lower than our competitors. This is because all our production activities, research, and scientific experiments are done in-house. We do not have to outsource the creation of our diamonds, and results to a more affordable price and shorter time frame in producing memorial diamonds and changing them into memorial jewellery.
